Handwashing
Handwashing Basics
3 min read · Updated 1 January 2026
Handwashing is the simplest everyday hygiene habit. Doing it thoroughly — not just quickly — is what makes the difference.
The technique
- Wet hands thoroughly with clean water.
- Apply liquid handwash and lather well.
- Rub palms, backs of hands, between fingers and around nails.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel.
When to wash
Wash your hands before eating or preparing food, after using the washroom, after cleaning, and after being outdoors. In homes, offices and public spaces alike, accessible handwash at every washbasin makes the habit easy to keep.
Keep wash areas supplied
Place handwash where people can reach it easily — at every washbasin, kitchen sink and entrance wash station. Large 5 L packs make refilling dispensers practical for offices and institutions.
